Remembering back on the final few episodes of the first Fullmetal Alchemist series, it left me in tears due to Edward’s sacrifice near the end. So when Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood came out recently, I noticed a great difference between the two series in which the ambience was a bit less darker than the predecessor, as well that it’s more closely based on the manga. Aniplex and Funimation released the final episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood at Anime Expo just hours after airing it in Japan.
To close the final episode of the FMA: Brotherhood on Day 4 of AX, the finale was much more of a happier ending in which left many of the fans satisfied. I for one was very pleased with the ending; and to tell you the truth, I had always wished for a different version for the series than the one I had watched years ago. Each of the character’s paths led to a better future and the outcome that they had harbored along the way during the epilogue of episode 64; more so with the Elric brothers. Of course I won’t spoil the details for those of you who have not yet finished watching all 64 episodes. To be honest, the past few days I have been trying to catch up watching all of them just to prepare for the last one.
People were lined up that morning and flags provided by Aniplex were handed out to the first 200 people in attendance that walked through the door. The anticipation was building up as everybody was waiting for the past 15 minutes for the A/V tech to finish up setting up the video onto the screen but the wait was worth it as soon as it started playing.
While watching the last two episodes, the audiences cheered and awed every time Edward does something heroic or when it comes to the love he have for his younger brother Alphonse. For the very last episode we see after the battle, Edward and Alphonse are now back to their original body - but they now set out for new adventures as soon as they completely recovered. And both went their separate ways to travel across various countries to gain knowledge that is similar to alchemy and alkahestry outside of their country. A smile was planted onto my face when I saw a picture on the wall that made the audience very happy at the end of the closing credits.
All good things come to an end; for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the final chapter of the series coincided with the ending of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, which finished its run a month ago. Afterwards, it was revealed that a second film of Fullmetal Alchemist is currently in production - one that I’m definitely looking forward to it.
