AniMaid Café was one of those special events that took place earlier this year. I never had the opportunity to attend when they were at Anime Expo last year due to my duties I had as a volunteer staff back at that time. So when I learned that they returned again this year, I reserved my space for the morning show.

To be honest, even though there were not a lot guests that day (it was in the morning after all), I had a lot of fun and had lots of memorable experience. As soon as I entered through the door I was greeted by hosts and maids and they handed me out a voucher for my meal. A nice gentleman was my host for the remainder of the show. The show started with a dance routine that the maids then performed on stage. After that they served coffee, milk, tea, and all sort of breakfast breads from the menu to their guests. Every one of us participated and we were really into it. There were people from all different ages so it good to bring family along to enjoy together.

I had a talk with one of the host that was with me the entire time of the morning show that day of what he does and why he’s doing it. He does this as a way to express himself and out of love and that he wanted to dedicate himself on something that he really enjoyed. Not only him but the rest of the staff as well. Each of one of them have set aside their busy schedule and dedicated their time and hard work into making AniMaid Café possible.

We played a round of games and later on there was another dance routine performed by the maids. Time flew by fast and before I knew it the morning show for AniMaid Café had come to an end. I really enjoyed the one hour show and wished it didn’t really have to end - but I’ll definitely come back again when they announce a new event in the near future.

So if you want to experience a bit of Japanese maid/host café culture then you’ll definitely don’t want to miss AniMaid Café. You can check out their event page at www.animaidcafe.org for their next appearance.
