Hello everyone, and welcome to our coverage of the SPIKE 2010 Video Game Awards. With our brave leader NuyoRiquena in attendance at the show, we hope to bring you excellent coverage of everything from the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy… The show kicks off with a very inappropriate song and dance number, at least for a show like this, on an elaborately lit up show. Thankfully, Neil Patrick Harris soon shows up and machine guns them all down. He then explains how the audience at home will see something special on the screen thanks to cooperation from major video gaming companies and rendering virtual environments over the stage. Soon, they name the first nominee for the Game of the Year award - Call of Duty: Black Ops. Then we are told by Maria Menounos about the world premiere of one of the most anticipated games, Batman: Arkham City, and a new feature trailer shows showcasing Batman vs. a team send by Hugo Strange to take him down and that Strange knows he is Bruce Wayne. Next on stage is Olivia Munn who is there to present the Studio of the Year award. Nominees are BioWare, Blizzard Entertainment, Bungie Studios, and Rockstar San Diego. And the winner is BioWare! Now up is Dane Cook to announce the first nominee for Character of the Year award, Ezio from Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. After a commercial break, a new mountainous stage is up with some robed men and women walking around. Todd Howard from Bethesda walks out from them to announce their newest game. We now see the world premiere for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to be released on 11/11/11. Awesome! NPH is back on stage making porn movie names out of video game titles. Next up is an announcement concerning the upcoming Mortal Kombat and a PlayStation 3 EXCLUSIVE character, Kratos from the God of War series! Dane Cook is back on announcing the Kratos is also a nominee for Character of the Year. Up now is 90210’s Annalynne McCord to show the world premiere of Thor: God of Thunder. An awesome looking trailer featuring gameplay and showing that the game is going to be released on May 3rd, 2011. Then Chris Hemsworth comes out and announces the nominees for the Best Action/Adventure Game of the Year. The nominees are Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, God of War III, Red Dead Redemption, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. And the winner is Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Then a quick announcement that the strongest heroes as voted were Master Chief, Samus Aran, and Marcus Phoenix. Tied into that announcement is a trailer for the Best Ranger Competition. Now back from a break, Blue Mountain States’ Denise Richards is on stage to announce My Chemical Romance performing Planetary Go. We then see Maria Menounos backstage with Comedy Central’s Nick Swardson talking about trash talking in gaming. Now Jason Ritter is onstage with an amazing Mass Effect 2 stage design. Mass Effect 2 is then revealed as a nominee for Game of the Year. He next announces BioWare’s next huge game and we see the world premiere for Mass Effect 3. Holy shit, that was an awesome trailer that showed the Earth being attacked by an alien force and that a release date of Holiday 2011. After another break the cast from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to announce the nominees for Best Shooter of the Year. The nominees are Battlefield: Bad Company 2, BioShock 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Halo: Reach. And the winner is Call of Duty: Black Ops. Now NPH is back onstage but Olivia Munn is up there before NPH jumps back up on there and they argue before she storms off stage. Anyways… the next world premiere is for Resistance 3 with an awesome torn out stage being shown. As the trailer plays we see a live action video inter-cut with game footage and a release date of September 6th, 2011. Now Dane Cook is back and announcing the third nominee for Character of the Year, Red Dead Redemption's John Marston. Then they show off the Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops edition. Now back, on stage is Nick Swardson saying that Hades and Kratos are coming on stage. Then in an elaborate underworld stage, we see battle each other as God of War III is announced as a Game of the Year nominee. Now Dane Cook is back for another nominee for Character of the Year, Frank Woods from Call of Duty: Black Ops. Now up to announce the nominees for Best Performance by a Human Male is Rachel Bilson. After a break, NPH is back on with some corny game idea created by himself titled Angry Birds Live. He is interrupted by the director saying that PETA wants the segment shut down. Maria Menounos is backstage with Olivia Munn talking about would they rather date John Marston or Ezio and Olivia responds Marston. Back on stage Guillermo Del Toro is there to announce his own video game, Insane, coming in 2013. Now on stage is the cast of Deadliest Warrior to announce the nominees for Most Anticipated Game of the Year. And the game is Portal 2! Now a world premiere trailer for Portal 2. WTF!?! Good write-up. Very detailed.
Good write-up. Very detailed. But tell me, what was really the best part and worst part of the show? I recorded it and sped through the boring parts (i.e., anyone actually talking) and watched the trailers mostly. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the show, but by that same token, i had low expectations to begin with.
What's so funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way?
Honestly, the whole show was
Nfamous Editor-in-Chief - and whatever you do, please don't call me Number 2.
Ok wait. I did catch the part
Ok wait. I did catch the part where Dominic Monaghan's joke about his hybrid car bombed and he told the camera that he was "just reading what was on the prompter". That was funnier then his actual joke attempt.
