Just Dance 2 Launch VIP Party

Smirnoff Patridge and Brandy strike a Charlie's Angels pose at Just Dance 2 party

For the launch of Just Dance 2, Ubisoft hosted a VIP party at Las Palmas in Hollywood, Calif. Our esteemed host was Audrina Patridge, and in case you somehow missed the last few years, she was one of the stars of the MTV hit show The Hills

Not being a fan of The Hills, I can honestly say it was not the motivation for my attendance — the game was. After the success of Just Dance (despite some lukewarm reviews), it was expected a sequel would follow. None of the early complaints were things a developing superstar like Ubisoft couldn't figure out. Just Dance is a party game, and it was exactly what kind of atmosphere was present at Las Palmas. There were round booths complete with their own set up and enough space to get your groove on with some of the stars.

At first I was concerned the DJ would overpower the sound from the game and, added to the talking and other systems, would create a audio cluster enough to drive a person insane. I was right about one part: You couldn't hear the game very well, but it didn't matter. People were having a great time, and it was just loud enough to catch. Truth is, everyone just wanted to follow along with friends and celebs, and with a little liquid courage, it was on.

No Ubisoft event is complete without the Frag Dolls, and they were on hand to help noobs get the hang of the movements. These are not moves you would not typically see at a party or club (at least not the ones I frequent), but as far as the game was concerned, Brookelyn FD of the Frag Dolls was a dancing queen! She killed it every time. The game is fun, and the atmosphere only added to the good times.

As I mentioned, I wasn't interested in the confirmed celebrity guests at first, but as with every one of my little adventures, there were some very cool surprises for me. (Why else would I be talking about it?) Almost everyone knows I am an uber-fan of So You Think You Can Dance, and I was very happy to see Jeanine Mason, winner of season 6. She is gorgeous and incredibly talented and naturally belonged at a dance game launch party. It was like finding the perfect shoes to go with your fabulous dress.

My favorite of the evening was Brandy. Not only does her music bring back some fond memories, but the woman looks absolutely amazing. She showed she still has it when we got up and danced several times and competed with other partygoers. Her brother and singer, Ray J, was there as well.

I am also pretty sure I saw Rich Sommer. He is Harry Crane on Mad Men — another show I am head-over-heels in love with. Since I couldn't remember at the time, I didn't ask for a photo with him. Yes, I know. Failure of epic proportions. I did manage to get under some other press photogs and grab a snapshot of him dancing with Brookelyn.

Security was extremely tight at the VIP shindig since their guests were able to freely roam and the last thing anyone needs is a crazy fan getting a hold of a celebrity. Yes, I got in, but I am a fan and sometimes a tad loca, but a "crazy fan" is a totally different thing.

The night was a success, and the game seemed to be doing well (the party was right after the launch for some reason) so far.

No one knows how to throw a party quite like Ubisoft.
