SyFy Logo

It’s television, we are used to seeing things altered, tucked, pulled, enhanced and reworked. SciFi is the latest network to decide their branding and image needed a bit of a face lift. Why not, it worked for the CW, formerly UPN and the WB, and truTV, formerly Court TV. But why fix what ain’t broke?

SciFi has answering the call when others have failed to do so with gamers (ahem, G4, yes you!) and we are grateful. But what about gaming is science fiction? It is time to rethink branding from just geeky to next-gen geek and this is what they have decided. I must be honest, it sounds like a silly name, but so did Hulu and so many of us are hooked already.

If SyFy wants to give us more programming in gaming and other geek chic genres, more power to them; I have just added them to my favorites in my DVR list. Here is my dilemma... The tag line is “Imagine Greater” - okay, cool; but what the hell will SyFy stand for?

I tried to brainstorm some things but I am coming up short. I came up with Synergy but there are no “Fy” why words in my dictionary! Then I tried to play with the letters, you know, See Y For Yourself, but that’s even cheesier than just SyFy. The best reader submission will receive a geeky goody bag!
