Duke Nukem Forever Lives!
One of the biggest rumblings from this years' Penny Arcade Expo, if not the biggest, is that Duke Nukem lives: 3D Realms' long past due, on again, off again Duke Nukem Forever has finally seen the light of day. The game was actually playable and is due out sometime in 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Gearbox Software (Borderlands) picked up the pieces after 3D Realms shut down in May 2009 and is finishing this fourth title in the Duke Nukem franchise.
Here are a few things Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, had to say, "Clearly the game hadn't been finished at 3D Realms, but a lot of content had been created. The approach, and investment, and process at 3D Realms didn't quite make it, and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software, we brought all those pieces together. It's the game it was meant to be."
Pitchford said they were currently in the "polishing phase" but declined to give any other specifics on when Forever will be released. It will be interesting to see how a game that's been in the works for well over a decade will turn out.
