Gamers United 2009 Holiday Party

image

That is the way we all are. We are one person out of a whole. Most of us do what we can and hope that it matters. And it does. Believe me, every little thing we do to help someone else is a big step in the right path in life and a great accomplishment in its own merit.

Now imagine, if you will, what you could accomplish when you unite with other likeminded individuals to work toward a common goal. The good you can do by all of you banding together to help out a wonderful cause. I think that is the point behind Gamers United. Gamers brought together to make a difference and show the good the gaming community could do for others.

On December 9th, Gamers United gathered at the Custom Hotel in Los Angeles to hold a charity holiday party. Attendees were asked to bring in a new video game, video game peripheral, or gaming accessory to help the children of the Teen Lounge of the Mattel Children’s Hospital of UCLA, and they responded generously. We here at Nfamous are proud to say that the amount of goods brought in by this wonderful gathering of video game enthusiast from all walks of the gaming industry far exceeded what we expected.

Some of the more notable attendees at the event included some of the most influential people in the industry such as Robert Welkner and Hailey Bright from Coin-Op TV Live, Carlos Ferro best known as the voice of Dominic Santiago from the Gears of War franchise, President of Intellivision Keith Robinson, Top Cow artist Rick Basaldua, anime and video game voice actors Spike Spencer (voice of Shinji Ikari of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series), Jennifer Hale (voice of Naomi Hunter of the Metal Gear Solid series and Ophelia in Brutal Legend), and Gregg Berger (voice of Jecht from the Final Fantasy series), actors Jeff Rector (Fatal Kiss, Fox Hunt, Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Alexis Cruz (Stargate, Stargate SG-1, Shark and Drag Me to Hell), comic book artist and now game producer Joe Madureira (Darksiders, Uncanny X-Men and Battle Chasers) and Kevin Pereira from G4’s Attack of the Show. But on this night, everyone who attended was a VIP.

It takes a special breed of people to help out those who need it. To put aside their own time to attend an event aimed at benefiting others. And that is what this group of people did. Gathering together for some drinks and hor devours and having a great time. There are so many words, and so little, to describe a group of people who want to help out. Showing gamers are not the apathetic, socially challenged, and rude people; as many characterize them. If those people had been at the Gamers United VIP Holiday Cocktail, and seen the amount of support and generosity the video gaming industry exhibited, I am sure they would have enlightened by our true nature.

The amount of support corporate sponsors and donors showed was amazing as well. These companies went out of their way to help and donate all they could for this worthy cause. Some of the sponsors included The ECA, Tecmo, Konami, Top Cow, Nyko, OniPress and Pwned.com. Without their help, the night would not have been the success that it was. They contributed greatly to these children and they deserve to be recognized for the efforts.

Media partners for the event were GamingAngels.com, NfamousGamers.com, and Coin-Op TV Live. Hosts for the evening were the cast of Hell-Y-Wood which included Chastity Irizarry, Traycee King and Heather Harris.

On a personal note, I feel compelled to remind our readers to reach out and help in some way. If you would like to donate, please contact Gamers United via their official site http://www.thegamersunited.org and find out how you can make a difference. The ability to help at every point in the year is one of the greatest things one can contribute as a person, gamer or otherwise. Please, do what you can because every little bit helps. It is this writer’s personal experience that helping others is a great way for one to help one’s self. I leave you now with these words of wisdom that were once given to me. “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
