by NuyoRiquena on 07.23.10 22 July 2010 – Showtime Party While I may have some (not so positive) feelings about the pop culture world descending upon and taking over San Diego Comic-Con admittedly I am a clear example of why they will continue to be a part of the convention. When I heard Showtime was hosting a party for some it’s best series (Weeds and Dexter) I knew I had to attend. As a gamer, I am curious about the new Dexter game and in truth, I am a fan of the show - I love everything about the series. I attended the party with my friend @CrixLee of GirlGamer and we saw Mr. Michael C. Hall almost immediately. It was an intimate gathering on the rooftop of the beautiful Andaz Hotel and it was full of beautiful people. Cricket walked right up to him and introduced herself, honestly told him we were journalists but also fans of his work and the show. There was a brief chat and we were able to get a quick photo with him and Cricket. Within what felt like seconds, he was completely bombarded by fangirls who had no qualms about jumping directly in front me, taking out a stanchion and creating a scene, in order to get their photo with the star. He smiled as any good celebrity must do and took the photo. I maintained my military bearing (albeit barely) and grinned at him. He apologized and asked me to give him a moment to check his phone and then he graciously granted me the fangirl photo. I expect most actors of his caliber have to appear down-to-earth to a degree but some are obviously playing the part. No matter how good an actor is, if you don’t get caught up in the moment, you can get a true sense of a person. There was no arrogance or ‘air’ about Michael C. Hall when we chatted. He was polite, even though what appeared to be his publicist was trying to pull him away from the flash mob of girls headed his way. For those wondering, he looks amazing and healthy and ready to take on the world. He stayed at the party until the end mingling with colleagues and friends – I actually left before he did!
All in all, it was a brief but special ‘ncounter. I admire Michael C. Hall, his talent and his “realness.” Like so many other fans, I am looking forward to season five of Dexter, especially after the completely unexpected turn of events at the end of last season. Speaking of which, I got a great swag bag with Dexter season 4 and some other cool gifts which we will be giving away! Check out the details here! Follow the series ~> @SHO_Dexter
