Green Lantern #1 - Sinestro, Part 1

When I went to the comic store that I usually go to in Huntington Beach, Ca I went there super excited to pick up the new Green Lantern 1. To my surprise, it was all sold out and I had to go to another comic shop in the area to pick it up. So while I was going almost 10 miles out of my way to pick up this book, I started thinking “Is this going to be worth it?” Well, it was! Much like JLA, Action Comics and Detective Comics in the previous weeks, I really enjoyed Greet Lantern 1. The story starts off on Oa with Sinestro saying the oath of the Green Lantern Corps in front of the Guardians counsel. Of Course some of the Guardians disagree with the decision to bring Sinestro back to the Green Lantern Corps, but it is ultimately decided that it is best to keep Sinestro close in order to contain him. In the meantime, back on Earth, Hal Jordan is coping with not being a Green Lantern and is struggling just to make ends meet; along with little relationship issues with Carol Ferris, aka Star Sapphire.

I thought this part of the comic was great because the writers did a great job making Hal Jordan part of the current economic state by making him jobless and desperate to just pay the rent. Then the story turns back to Sinestro going back to his home world of Korugar. While he is observing Korugar, Sinestro notices that there is war on his planet. He is then suddenly attacked by one of his own Sinestro Corps members who call Sinestro a traitor to his own Corps. In the struggle, Sinestro almost dies, but kills the attacker. The last act was interesting because it goes back to Hal Jordan going to his apartment and when he goes to his apartment to unlock his door, he sees he has an eviction notice. Then suddenly someone whispers his name “Jordan.” Hal looks and its Sinestro. Sinestro telling Hal “If you want your ring back, you’ll do everything I say.” When it comes right down to it I loved the book, the art was amazing and I can’t wait for the next Green Lantern to come out!

Next time, save your gas

Next time, save your gas money and download it online! Same day digital releases FTW. Great review, by the way. I haven't picked up a comic in month, but my nerdrage toward the industry is beginning to subside slowly but surely.

Going to the local comic shop

Going to the local comic shop is becoming more and more of a chore lately, but as a collector, I can't do the digital comic thing. I need the actually book in my hand to really appreciate it for what it is. Digital comics are good for a once over, but I want the real thing in my hand regardless.
