by Dr Chris on 01.16.12 ![]() Warning! Review is graphic and violent - read at your own risk. Cassie Hack and her companion Vlad have had very little crossovers with major horror movie stars - I think Chucky might be the only one; unless you count a one page piece of art that creator Tim Seeley did for a convention which has Cassie and Vlad meet Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th and Dexter Morgan from Showtime's Dexter… but I digress. This annual has them meet Adam Green’s terror from the swamp, Victor Crowley, played in the movies Hatchet, Hatchet 2 and the upcoming Hatchet 3 by horror icon Kane Hodder.
A group of kids decided to go into the swamp to see if the legend is true they get attacked and one of their own gets mauled nearly to death by Crowley and an alligator. Years later, the same survivor has Cassie Hack and Vlad came to the Louisiana to find some missing people. The woman is a mutilated version of her former self with only one arm left and scars all over her once pretty body. We learn she lured her old friends to this made up swamp to get revenge on them for leaving her to die years ago. Cassie and Vlad get in there to rescue some people who deserve their fate. They also happen to run into Victor Crowley, whose ghost is suggested to be able to be transported to whatever swamp he chooses to be at. This is a very new and unusual sci-fi like twist on Crowley's legend. Its worth picking up if you’re a fan of the Hatchet films or the Hack/Slash series. If you have never read a Hack/Slash comic, this is a good jumping on point as they don't bog you down with heavy back story.
