by Shadow on 08.21.10 ![]() Sometimes I go looking for bad books to make my good books feel better on bad weeks. Sometimes bad books are just too easy to spot, especially if there's a crossover. Just look for the book that looks forced into the scene. That's usually the bad one. Sometimes I'm wrong. And here I was thinking this "Power Man" book was about Luke Cage.
In actuality, this book is about a new hero born from the rubble caused by Bullseye's explosive night out on the town. Instead of dying, Victor Alvarez's powers manifested. Since then, he's been promoting himself as a hero for hire on Craigslist to help his family pay the bills. While on the job, this new Power Man got involved with Daredevil's ninjas. After humiliating them, the ninjas warn Iron Fist if he doesn't catch Power Man, they'll kill him. Instead of getting a lame comic, I got a new character's origin story with a nice backup feature all about Luke Cage's and Iron Fist's history. Whoda thunk?
The art is not bad either. Mahmud Asrar does a great job animating fight scenes. His panel work seems to be a little here and there, but that's just me being nit-picky. I still can't believe how good this book is. Not that it's incredible, but I just wasn't expecting this at all. When I saw the cover, I thought Luke had to wear some dumb uniform for some reason and whine about how dumb he looks. By the way, the cover doesn't help this book much. I'm just saying. It looks like Daredevil is pissed off at Iron Fist for not dancing well while Power Man is "Kool-Aid Man"-ing the wall.

I saw this on stands and thought it also was about Luke Cage. I should have bought it on GP, but am trying to cut books, not add new ones to my pull list. So thanks for taking this one for the team. =)
