by Arcee on 04.29.10 ![]() In this one-shot continuing the celebration of the Women of Marvel, Sif 1 offers the reader insight into the mind of the warrior woman who is trying to find her place in the world after Asgard is resurrected on Midgard. As she struggles to adjust to a mortal life in the small town of Broxton, Oklahoma, she is found by an old ally and offers her services in place of the missing Thor. When confronted with an enemy who threatens to take away her sense of self, can Sif find the strength to overcome this enemy, or is she doomed to be a victim of control once again and die before she can fight back? This is another strong outing by Marvel in this celebration of their female characters. Kelly Sue DeConnick's writing gives a sense of humanity to the goddess warrior — not only giving her a sense of helplessness, but never emasculating her. She is still a warrior — and a fierce one at that — but it shows she has doubts and reservations. As for the art, Ryan Stegman's pencils, although not as clean as I usually prefer, do a great job of conveying the sentiment of the story. I have some reservations about the art, but overall, I like how the book looks and feels. Although not the best book out there, if you are a fan of character-driven stories, I suggest you pick this one up.
