Fruit Ninja

A simple concept executed well. That's a good description of Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja. It's not very often you can sum up a game in one sentence, but with Fruit Ninja, you can do just that: Use your finger to slice through all kinds of fruit, but be careful to avoid bombs. That's it, and the simplicity is refreshing. It seems like too many games are overly complicated; sometimes quick and straightforward gameplay is exactly what you need.

Graphic design and presentation are excellent. Fruit Ninja is both clean and colorful. Menus are minimal and easy to navigate. The sound effects of cutting through fruit are quite satisfying; there is a certain gushy splatter to it that just makes me feel good.

There are a few things that could be added to Fruit Ninja to make it a little more interesting. First, it would be great if the fruit was cut where you actually slice it, as opposed to always being evenly cut in half. Second, instead of random criticals that add bonus points, it would be great to earn style points based on combos and slicing patterns.

Whether you're trying to climb the leaderboard or just up your score to brag on Facebook and Twitter through some super easy-to-use integration, Fruit Ninja is an awesome time-waster. At only $0.99, you're guaranteed to get your money's worth. What are you waiting for? Grab your katana and start swinging.
