by Zach Starr on 06.09.10 ![]() Do you love performing menial tasks and waiting on customers over and over again? If yes, then I've got the next food service game for you, Sushi Go-Round. Get those iPhones ready for heart-pounding action as you make sushi for ungrateful customers. There are far too many of these games available. Servicing customers is not fun in real life, and it isn't fun digitally either. The first couple of games I played like this were OK, including Turbo Subs and Sally's Salon. However, as I've played, little by little, I began to resent tapping the screen for these virtual customers. One thing those two have going for them to give some incentive for playing is a storyline. Sushi Go-Round has a Story Mode, but somehow I must have missed the story. As soon as it is selected, you start making sushi. No illustrations, no epic tale of a father's death and how you are left to take up the sushi legacy, no white text on a black screen giving any background at all. What you have are three lives, so you must reach your sales goals for the day, or you die. The only other gameplay option is Rush Mode in which the object is, you guessed it, serving wave after wave of customers.
The presentation here is well done, but the animations are limited, and of course, everything else are stationary images. One option available that is a great feature is turning off the sound. It's awesome because after playing for about five minutes, you'll be ready to shove a dull knife into your ear drum. That's how great the music is. Tapping the screen to make and order sushi is fun in a very minimal dose, about four to five minutes. After that, you'll be ready to close up shop. Of course, $0.99 isn't much, but there are other games available that do a better job of making customer service less annoying.
