by Arcee on 12.10.10 ![]() Earlier this week, I picked up a reserved copy of the Tron: Evolution Collector’s Edition for the PS3 from my local GameStop. At a retail price of $129.99 before taxes, the Collector’s Edition is no easy push on the wallet. Hell, in these times, that money could have been spent elsewhere… unless the person who bought this edition of the game feels it was worth it. Of course, being the huge Tron fan that I am, do you all think it was worth it for me?
To start off, let’s go over the contents of the Tron: Evolution Collector’s Edition. In this very decorative and beautiful looking box, you will find included a copy of the game Tron: Evolution, a game inspired light cycle model by Sideshow Collectibles, a display case for the light cycle model that also serves as a protective casing for the game, and a $10 certificate good towards the purchase of a movie ticket to see Tron: Legacy in theaters. Of course, since I preordered my copy of the game, I also received a code for an exclusive Quorra skin for use in the multiplayer portion of the game.
Right off the bat I want to get my one complaint about the whole set out there in the open. Why the fuck doesn’t the light cycle light up? Really? For as much as I paid for the Collector’s Edition you would have thought it would at least light up or even glow in the dark. Nope. It doesn’t do any of those. In that regards, it is a bit of a disappointment. I really wish I could say that this is one hell of a Collector’s Edition given that I am a huge fan of the original movie. But because one of the main grabs of this edition doesn’t even do what its namesake does… it is kind of a big letdown. If it just would have lit up it would have made the whole edition worth every penny.
As for the other parts of the Collector’s Edition; well, they are certainly better than the light cycle, that’s for sure. The display case/protective casing is actually kind of cool. It is a bit too bulky to store with the other games, but since I am already displaying the light cycle in the case it is kind of cool to have the game stored there as well. The $10 certificate was certainly a big help when I went to go buy tickets for the midnight IMAX 3D showing of the movie Tron: Legacy for my family and I. Hey, after what I spent on the game ten dollars helps out a lot. As for the Quorra multiplayer skin, I love it. I like the fact that I don’t look like almost everyone else playing the game so far. I just wish that Quorra would look a little more feminine in the game when she has her mask off, but otherwise it is a great skin.
So was the Tron: Evolution Collector’s Edition worth $130? Honestly… not really. While there were some cool things that came with the game, the fact that the light cycle, the one reason that I wanted to order this edition of the game in the first place, doesn’t do so much as at least glow in the dark, much less light up, is a major disappointment. That thing would have looked so cool lit up and displayed on my wall above the television while I played Tron: Evolution. Instead, it kind of just sits there, barely noticeable in the darkness of my living room. So unless you are a huge fan of the movie, and considering that I am a huge fan myself, this is definitely something you might want to pass up on. Well, so much for that. I’ll be seeing you all later at the midnight showing of the movie with my identity disc in hand and reflective Tron hoodie December 16th.
