Following up on the previous Broken Trinity series and event that introduced readers to Glorianna Silver and Michael Finnegan, two current bearers of ancient artifacts of almost god-like power akin to the Darkness, Angelus, and Witchblade. While one seeks to find and unite all 13 of these artifacts, one is charged with the protection and prevention of uniting them. But another player has entered the fray and he has some plans of his own that are being set in motion.
While not as strong a story as the 2007 event was, this new Broken Trinity event is off to an interesting start. You are again introduced to Glorianna Silver, bearer of the Ember Stone artifact, and Michael Finnegan, who currently possesses the Glacier Stone artifact. You get a sense of the longtime rivalry between the two old stones and what their merger means for the world. But the man known as Elias Legion and his cult, The Disciples of Adam, who is seeking out to bring about a New Eden from the ashes of this world.
The story is pretty good, though I wish it would have touched more on the events from the previous event so I wouldn’t have to go back through some old issues to rediscover what happened. Still, the story is good and evenly paced, just make sure you go back and reacquaint yourself with these characters first. As for the art, it is a little below the standards that I have come to expect from Top Cow, but definitely not bad at all. I just wish it were a bit more cleaned up and crisp. But in the end, it is a fairly enjoyable book that could have been a little better. Be sure to pick it up this Wednesday from Top Cow at your local comic shop.
